With all the attention that the social media is getting at the moment you'd think that people have ignored the creative side of reaching out to people with both their opinions and valuable insights. That's simply not true, there are legions of dedicated bloggers out there who are making there voices heard.
The beauty of blogging is that you don't have to be a trained journalist to enjoy a dedicated audience, you simply have to have something interesting to say. However blogging about what you had for breakfast is not going to get you a huge following. Although there are exceptions to even this rule.
The key to successful blogging is to find your niche. Find a subject that you are interested in and that's half the battle for followers won.
If you have a strongly held opinion on subjects that can range from the social media itself, to politics or technology there's a more than even chance that someone out here is going to want to read what you have to say.
Before you dive in head first you're going to have to make some simple choices, such as which platform you prefer as a vehicle for your blogging activities. Many people seem to gravitate towards the free options like Blogger or WordPress. However, there are many other choices out there. For those who want a slightly more visual look and feel to their blogs choices like Tumblr make a lot of sense.
Once you've made your choice you're going to want to make sure that your blog looks good. Thankfully there are an enormous number of free templates that are available for users of the most popular blogging platforms. Spend some time finding one that will suit your own individual style.
Once you've got the look and feel nailed down then it's time to find that all important inspiration. Many bloggers claim that they simply have to sit down at a keyboard and the words simply come tumbling out. For others it's a case of searching for that idea that gets the mental juices flowing.
Fortunately the internet is full of places to find inspiration. One of the best places to start looking is at popular news sites. There are many of these sites, some offering a quirky take on the everyday and some slightly more serious. Many offer the option of viewing topics that are ‘trending'. These topics are popular on with Internet users and can really provide some great ideas.
If you'res till stuck then the ‘ten things' formula is a great way to break the drought. Look at our own experiences and put together a list based on your own experiences. Such as ‘ten things having a teenager in the house taught me about patience'. You get the idea.
Perhaps one of the best pieces of advice a blogger can get is to always have a thick skin. There are always people out there who delight in belittling your blogging efforts. These trolls are best ignored. If they continue to be a problem, bar them from commenting.
