“It’s Not What You Know, It’s Who You Know.” Well, What If You Don’t Know Anyone? I am currently enrolled in community college. I’d like to eventually (it’s been five years) transfer to a four year university….get my undergrad, who knows, maybe a graduate degree?

I have a mental illness which makes doing even the simplest things unbearably exhausting. I say this because I would really like a degree to secure a better future for myself. I also have severe social anxiety, and when I try to make small talk, there is usually an awkward moment in the middle of the conversation where either I put my foot in my mouth, or I can’t think of anything else interesting to say/contribute so I just remain silent and smile. I say something like “It was nice meeting you!” and then walk away. And that’s just like, in the rare social event. How on earth would I be able to “build contacts” through “networking”? Who are the “right contacts”? I have many areas of interest regarding a career, but this question is about a possible business major: maybe finance, or marketing–basically anything under the umbrella of a business or business administration field.

I would really appreciate any help. I feel like I’m at my wit’s end here.

How To Contact An Old Friend In A Non Creepy Way? I am a recent highschool grad who’s going off to college in a month. Recently I have been thinking about people I lost touch with and people I want to see again before I go away. One of those people i have been trying to reconnect with, but for lack of a better word, he’s closed off. By this I mean that he detests social networking and thusly doesn’t have a facebook, google plus or any site on which I can contact him. The only email I had for him was one that he made in 8th grade when we first became friends which he must of deleted because when I tried emailing him it bounced back to me. I also no longer have his phone number, and the only physical way I know to contact him is to go knock on his door. My concern with this is that we haven’t hung out in over a year and I have only been to his house a few times so I don’t want to come across as creepy or stalkerish…any advice would be greatly appreciated
