Down year for Arizona sports team equals weak sales for Phoenix memorabilia dealers

Sports Collectibles is a bit of a holiday staple at Paradise Valley Mall. The memorabilia shop opens at the northeast Phoenix store a few months before the holiday season and closes shortly thereafter each and every year.
But organization has been tough this year and owner Jeff Thalblum doesn’t think it’s solely since of the tough economy. Sales at Sports Collectibles have decreased about 70 percent since last year and Thalblum blames the overall poor performance of the Valley’s professional sports teams.
He is not alone.
