Affiliate Marketing is Not a Get Rich Quick Scheme!
There are so many misconceptions regarding affiliate marketing. You do not need previous experience in computers or the Internet to make money in affiliate marketing. You do not need your own website or even your own product to sell either. What you do need is a good support system of other people with the knowledge and experience in affiliate marketing, who you can turn to and ask questions that pertain to your situation. These folks have been where you are now and some are where you want to be, making a decent living from affiliate marketing. These people will help cut your learning curve in half and help you make money faster than if you were to try to learn it all on your own. Do not believe people when tell you that you will be making tons of money quickly. It takes time to learn the ropes, it takes patience and commitment in trying different marketing techniques. Everyone learns at their own pace, so everyone earns at their own pace. The opportunities are there to make a lot of money with affiliate marketing, just don’t expect it to happen overnight.
Here is a sneak peek into what I have recently learned about affiliate marketing;
1. Research, research and more research. Find what the current “hot items” or “hot topics” are and capitalize on those markets.
2. Join some affiliate sites such as clickbank or commission junction
3. Use a variety of different strategy’s to market the affiliates you have chosen.
4. Start collecting checks from your efforts
What are some of the strategies you can use?
Squidoo is a great place to start and it’s FREE! You simply write about anything you would like and you incorporate your affiliate links throughout your article. For example, I just finished a “lens” (as Squidoo calls it) entitled “Oprah’s Favorite Things for 2007” you can view it at www.squidoo.com/oprahs-favorite-things-2007 If you notice throughout the article there are links to see some of the products on Macy’s website, or books and cd’s on Amazon’s website. Those are my “affiliate links” and when someone clicks on the link and purchases something, I get paid. Now there are also some links that I inserted that I do not get paid on, but they are provided to the reader for informational purposes.
It really is so easy a child can do it. My kids use sites like MySpace and Facebook to promote things of interest to them, for free. Kids today are very computer literate because of these sites, affiliate marketing just seems second nature to them. These are just more free ways to promote your affiliate sites.
Another way you can make money with affiliate marketing is though pay per click ads, but they are not free. You create ads though Google Adwords or Yahoo Search Marketing. You know the ads you see that are usually on the left hand side of a page when you search for something on Google. They are 4 short lines, 3 lines of text to entice you to click the ad and 1 line for the website they want people to see. Now you know that even if you see a website link in an ad, it can differ from the actual link that is used to track the affiliate marketer’s link. How it works is, you create and ad called a “marketing campaign” and include your affiliate links within your ad directing customers to your partners site. When a purchase is made from your link, you make money. This type of affiliate marketing is a bit trickier, because you are paying for each “click” on your ad, weather you earned any money or not. So if you are a beginner, you probably should use the free marketing techniques first before you move on to the pay per click ads. If done wrong, it can end up costing you a lot money, instead of making it. Be careful.
There is so much to learn about affiliate marketing, so chose your partners wisely. Do your research and learn as much as you can from others.
