These days search engines give more importance to one-way links in comparison to reciprocal links and three-way links. You could gain a considerable number of one-way links by participating in forums and social book marking sites, by submitting articles and by submitting your link to popular directories. Your site offers something specific and you have quite a bit of knowledge about the field you are in. Search for forums matching your niche and register there.

Most of the forums have the ‘Signature’ option where you can put your favorite text or image. The signature is appended with every post of yours. Many forums allow you to put your website’s link in the signature, though many don’t. Just read the forum rules before specifying the signature.

Let’s say you could include your link in the signature. Give suggestions and helpful answers to people in your niche. People liking your posts would definitely try to find out more about you and your website. This way you get direct traffic as well as inward links.

One important thing to give attention is that many forums set the value of the ‘rel’ attribute to be ‘nofollow’ for the content in the signature. In that case Google won’t find your link and it would not be counted as an inward link, though there won’t be any problem with yahoo and some other search engines.

You can also give suggestions in general sections like Health or Careers or participate in the Sports Section. Doing so may not bring you traffic which stays long, but you may still benefit from the link juice.
