Why Do Some People Think You Cannot Be Socially Liberal And Financially Conservative?

why do some people think you cannot be socially liberal and financially conservative

ex. Someone believes in legalizing drugs, gay marriage, seperation of church, freedom of religion etc. , and also believes in Free Trade markets, smaller government, lower taxes, decreased government spending…….it does exist, the small space to write questions….harder than a blog

They are ignorant. Because there are plenty of people who are socially liberal and fincancially conservative.
Plenty of people have their ‘highest’ priority when it comes to politics, whether it’s security, the environment, abortions, the children. Some people hold freedom in the highest regard.

Don’t know what your’e talkin about because that is exactly what I am.
However, socially liberal does not mean I am a Cindy Sheehan Code Pink wacko.
I won’t conserve my finances to blow some well deserving low lifes from the face of the planet.

  • Because “Social Liberal” has more than one meaning. It could mean that one is coming from a liberal perspective in terms of values, ideas, judgments and attitudes, but lives his or her life like a conservative. In other words, His or Her liberalism is only skin deep.

I don’t know why people think that you can’t, but every day I watch my little sister, the more I believe that people can be socially liberal and financially conservative. But hey, I when I devote, I devote. I am fully liberal…. ;)

Sounds to me like you want to party a lot, but have someone else buy the beer. It might work for a while, but you gotta help pull the load sometime, otherwise, you will run out of friends quickly.
(“party” and “beer” have been used here to make my point, but they could refer to any type of social program, and the financial implications that come with it )
    Cheers!

That would be us Libertarians you’re talking about.
One reason the notion exists that one must be both socially and fiscally liberal (or vice versa) is that both the major parties are dominated by people who, generally speaking are either liberal on all things or conservative as to all things.
