Imagine being able to stay home and make a living at the same time! That is a plausible dream. Unfortunately, only a few legitimate home business opportunities are available. Most advertised “home businesses” are scams designed to take your money. In today’s fast-access internet world, people need to be cautious.

With the internet providing millions of people easy access to legitimate and scam opportunities, it is no wonder so many fall victim to these predatory scams. They advertise easy money and no work needed. Flashy cars and gorgeous mansions fill the advertisements. Anyone can be bewitched by such luxury.

Different scams lurk on the internet and television. A particularly goofy home business scam that a lot of people fall for is stuffing envelopes. Ads claim thousands of dollars if you stuff envelopes. All you ever get for your money is advertisements to post so that other people will send you money in a stamped, addressed envelope, hoping you’ll send them information on a home business. All you have to give them is more home business advertisements! A few other gullible people may actually send the envelopes and couple bucks to you, if you even put the flyers up, but you aren’t going to make hundreds, let alone, thousands of dollars.

The money order scam can be pretty bad. A “company” claims to need third-party payment processing. As a processor, money order payments are sent to you by mail and you are to cash them at your bank. Deduct your pay and then wire the money to some specified foreign locale. Sounds good until you realize the money orders are fakes! You end up getting charged for the amount of the money orders, plus any bank fees owed. When that money is gone, it’s gone. For good. It’s a terrifying home business scam!

Another sort of home business scam exists. They offer a list of companies supposedly in need of home business workers. You pay them a fee. Then all you get is a phony list of companies that may never have hired home based employees! Another big one involves you being a spammer. In that scam, the point is to get people to pay you to show them how to be a spammer! All it amounts to is you spreading the scam.

There are many repercussions for participating in home business scams. For one thing, you usually end up losing money. People who go looking for home based work don’t usually have a ton of money lying around, so that is detrimental. Worse still you end up wasting valuable time that could have been spent looking into legitimate money making. Getting involved with money orders and checks could have legal repercussions. Watch out when dealing with these home business scams.

To protect yourself, there are measures you can take. Check out any home business with the Better Business Bureau in your area. Make sure to keep your personal information personal. Most importantly, if you have to pay upfront, it is probably a scam.

Real opportunities in home business are few, finding some can be tough. Watch out for scammers! Some real companies that need home based people include 1-800-FLOWERS, Easter Seals Home Telemarketers, and Ver-a-fast. The aforementioned companies offer real home business openings. Don’t be fooled out of your money by home business scams!
