Autopilot actually means fully automated.
What they're talking about is a business in which every single component feeds into the next completely automatically.
Imagine you have this process in place and every step feeds into the next
- Targeted traffic generation
- Some free offer to get opt-ins to a list
- List building using an auto responder
- Auto responder series of emails being sent out regularly to the opt-in subscribers. Each email containing some valuable information thus building a relationship and plenty of good will with the subscribers by giving them value (for no money)
- Some of the emails containing product reviews, recommendations or just subtle little classified ads included for affiliate products, obviously with your affiliate link
As the subscribers read and some click thru to the affiliate product and buy, you get commissions sent to you by the mercahnts for whom you advertised in your auto responder series.
In practice there is no totally auto-pilot system perhaps with the exception of expired domain cash parking but even that involves a fair amount of preparatory work. But once done, "you can set and forget". But that needs some capital and is not for everyone.
But the above process works very well for many affiliates. Proabably the most work is involved in generating traffic from multiple sources and monitoring which sources give you the best sales ... that means a lot of monitoring and using special tools. But once you master this process, you can spend signififcantly less time on it and therefore get close to an "autopilot" syste,.
I hope this helps

"Autopilot" as it applies to affiliate marketing and internet marketing simply means having a system, which once set up, does not require too much further effort from you.
Generally it would mean having a resources to help out such as:
- A payment processor to accept payments 24/7
- A email marketing service for collecting your customer and visitors information and following up with them
You can read about some of my favorite resources on this web page:http://affiliatemarketinglessons.com/rec...
Hope this helps...
