What does it take to become a great SEO master? The fact is, the more you know, the better your strategy will be. That means understanding the lies and the truths which float around on the internet. Below you will find five myths which are debunked for your reading pleasure.
Your google ranking is directly tied to your Page Rank. Wouldn’t it be nice if this was the case? It would make your research far simpler! The fact is that many sites with a low Page Rank often surpass higher ranked pages on the results page. If google gave out this information that easily, anyone could also easily game it. The fact is that google isn’t stupid, so there is more to your position than your Page Rank.
If you’re not using H1 tags, you aren’t optimizing your site. H1 tags truly have nothing to do with your ranking on a Search Results page. The fact is that a page which is easy to read will be popular, and using heading tags can help you achieve well formatted content, but it is still the content which matters, not the tags you use. Use headings to clean up the look of your content, but don’t rely on them to boost your position.
If you create two websites for two countries, google will see it as duplicate content. The fact is that google knows that your .ca site should show up for Canadians and your .co.uk site should show up for people in Britain. They won’t punish you for having multiple sites as long as not all of the content is identical. If you have a .com and want to let google know which country it is geared towards, do so in google Webmaster Tools.
SEO can be done once and then forgotten. There is no such thing as being done with SEO! You have to continually add new content and optimize it, and even recheck your old keywords to be sure they are still effective. You have to monitor your statistics to ensure that traffic is still flowing into your website. You can always better the results you are getting by experimenting with new techniques, so why quit now? It is a bit of work, of course, but the results will be well worth the effort.
If you want to build back links, farm out the work to a foreign contractor. The fact is that the internet is already polluted with spam comments, emails and social media accounts. Using such a service will only cause google to catch on to what you’re doing, punishing you by delisting or brutally lowering the position of your link in their results. Don’t allow yourself to become a part of the problem!
You now know about some ideas which aren’t accurate at all, so you can use this knowledge to better your SEO strategy. Don’t fall prey to lies any longer, instead focus on the truth and how it can benefit your website. Your profits will increase and your success will be within reach.
