Will I Be Able To See Cloud Bands On Jupiter Using Celestron AstroMaster 114EQ? I’m looking to get a bit more of planetary detail, the one that I have right now isn’t cutting it. It seems that around $150 seems to be a good deal for this telescope. Any other suggestions for telescopes in that price range?

Also, any indication on how Andromeda will look through this? (Typical suburban skies, but I can drive out somewhere dark sometimes, too..)

While I am still in awe looking at the very faint blurry patch through my 70mm telescope, I would like to get a bit more detail.

Also, how much would a barlow lens help in, say, viewing the cloud bands/red spot on Jupiter?

While I consider myself to have a somewhat decent knowledge of astronomy, I haven’t had too much telescope time, so excuse my ignorance of them.

    Thank you!

Stay away from the Celestron AstroMaster 114EQ: it’s one of the _worst_ telescopes on the market. It uses the flawed Jones-Bird design, which has terrible spherical aberration and is impossible to collimate. It also is on an undersized equatorial mount which is shaky and hard to use. Get a simple Newtonian on a Dobsonian mount instead. In all honesty, you won’t get satisfactory views of planets or deep sky objects with 114mm aperture. You need at least 150mm, with 200mm and 250mm being better. The minimum telescope which I recommend is the Orion or SkyWatcher 6-inch Newton on a Dobsobian mount.

Here are a few web pages with good information on beginner’s telescopes:
      http://www.gaherty.ca/tme/TME0702_Buying_a_Telescope.pdf
      http://www.scopereviews.com/begin.html
      http://observers.org/beginner/j.r.f.beginner.html

For more advanced information, read Phil Harrington’s Star Ware, 4th edition (Wiley).

You’ll get the greatest value for your money with a Newtonian reflector on a Dobsonian mount, such as these:
      http://www.telescope.com/Telescopes/Dobsonian-Telescopes/pc/1/12.uts
      http://www.skywatchertelescope.net/swtinc/product.php?class1=1&class2=106

Buy from a store which specializes in telescopes and astronomy, either locally or online; don’t buy from department stores, discount stores or eBay as mostly what they sell is junk. Find your local astronomy club and try out different telescopes at one of their star parties:
      http://www.skyandtelescope.com/community/organizations

I strongly recommend that beginners steer clear of astrophotography until they have learned their way around the sky. Astrophotography is by far the most expensive and difficult area of amateur astronomy.

Many people who buy telescopes have no idea how to find interesting things to observe. A good introduction to finding things is NightWatch by Terence Dickinson (Firefly). A more advanced book is Star Watch by Phil Harrington (Wiley).

How Long Should You Wait After Buying Wedding Dresses Online To Try And Resell Them To Get Turn Big Profit? Recently I’ve started winning some online auctions for wedding dresses that I come across where I don’t have to bidd way over and above what I want but I’m trying to do this kind of behind my wife’s back beccause it’s an investment and she wouldn’t understand since we’re in a tough spot financially right now. i’m having all of the dresses i win shipped to my best friend jason’s house but he’s gettting upset that they’re staying there for longer than what i thought. well i’m only keeping them there becuase i heard that you need to keep them off of the market for 2 years before they begin climbing again in value but now we’re getting large credit card bills i cant push off any longer so do you think trying to re-sell some dresses just 3 months after purchasing them would be a problem or ccould i still expect a sizeable retturn?
